Colin Thornton is an award-winning writer for both screen and stage.
His latest feature, Four Mothers, co-written with brother Darren Thornton and starring James McCardle, Fionnula Flanagan and Niamh Cusack premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2024, winning the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature Film.
His first feature film script A Date for Mad Mary, co-written with brother Darren Thornton, premiered at the 52nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival to rave reviews. The film was selected to screen in competition at the 60th BFI London Film Festival.
Colin also wrote the short film script Two Hearts as part of The Irish Film Board Signatures scheme. It won a number of awards and nominations nationally and internationally including the Prix UIP Award at the 2011 Cork Film Festival and it was selected as a nominee for the 2012 European Film Awards. He has written several film and theatre plays for Calipo Theatre and Picture Company. His play Show Me Love, written for Dublin Youth Theatre, was performed in Smock Alley Theatre in 2015.
