Joan O’Clery is an award winning costume designer working across Film, TV and Theatre.

Recent credits include Darren Thornton’s feature, Four Mothers starring Fionnula Flanagan, Niamh Cusack and James McArdle and The Wolf, The Fox and The Leopard with Director David Verbeek.  Her other screen credits include the Irish feature Tarrac!, with Declan Recks directing and Dating Amber with Director David Freyne, for which she was nominated for an IFTA award for Best Costume Design. Joan also designed Mark O’Rowe’s debut feature film The Delinquent Season, starring Cillian Murphy and Andrew Scott, as well as Rose Plays Julie for Samson Films, which was nominated for Best Film at BFI London Film Festival. Her work for TV includes Kin for Headline Pictures/BRON, Finding Joy for RTÉ and period mini series Trial Of The Century.

Joan has a distinguished career across theatre with recent productions including QUAKE (Mermaid Arts Centre), The Saviour (Irish Rep Theatre, NYC/ Pavilion Theatre/Edinburgh FF 2021), Ghosts (Abbey Theatre/ Landmark Productions) Walking with Ghost(Landmark Productions/ Dublin/ West End) which transferred to Broadway in late 2022 , Na Peirsigh / PersiansJoyce’s Women (Abbey Theatre), The Steward of Christendom (The Gate Theatre), Iqbal Kahn’s production of Macbeth at Shakespeare’s Globe London, as well as Woyzeck in Winter and The Second Violinist for Landmark productions at the Barbican.

Joan is a three time winner of the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best Costume for productions of Peer Gynt, Lolita and The Pinter Festival.
